All galvanizers know that nickel has a distinct beneficial effect when galvanizing reactive steels.
What many do not know is that this metal gives excellent competitive advantages when used on normal steels.
Addition of this metal to the kettle at around 500 ppm (0.05% by weight) radically changes the performance of the bath to:
Cause increased fluidity and thus improved run-off of zinc as the work is removed from the kettle to give accurate and consistent coatings
A bright, smooth & even surface appearance.
 
There have however been problems in the use of nickel :
50% to 80% reports directly to dross
Floating dross is common
